COME BACK IN THE ANCIENT TIMES, TASTING GOOD FOOD
The tour starts with the visit to a cheese factory, which began the work with the cheese dairy began in 1990. They keep and develop the traditions of typical tastes of sheep breeding in Tuscany and we work only the milk of the sheep present on the farm. They produce also cheese pecorino made up of raw milk, not dealt thermally, like in the millenarian tradition of cheese making: those are type of cheese difficult to work, by now rare to find, but with an unmistakable taste, synthesis of technological rigor and ancient knowledge. The tour ends with a perfect lunch to taste the products.
Then we’ll have a walking tour in Volterra. The town, a haven of Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Rennaissance art, still retains traces of its majestic past which gradually unfurls as you wander through the narrow streets. You cannot talk about Volterra without mentioning Alabaster, an artistic handicraft that boasts a centuries-old history and a nobility of traditions that can be felt in every nook and corner of the town. It is a calcareous substance mined in the surrounding area that has been widely used for millennia since the Etruscan craftsmen carved it to obtain urns to keep the ashes of their dead. The secrets of the manufacture of this warm and luminous stone have been handed down for ages from generation to generation, and still represent one of the highest peaks of the italian artistic handicraft. In the characteristic workshop, which we will visit, where everything is covered with white dust, the visitor will find great or small masterpieces to satisfy any taste.
